A message from the cooks

Esto es la receta para las tortillas perfectas!!!!   This week we had the most bomb job ever!   We got to spend the week learning the Mexican way of cooking with Juanita.. the sweetest lady ever!  We never understood the satisfaction of cooking until now.  When you cook for people you make them very happy!  Now here is a little message from all the cooks:
Brittany- I felt so blessed this week to be in the kitchen.  Being in Mexico, cooking bomb authentic Mexican food, and speaking Spanish with Juanita was an answer to prayer.  I loved every second of it.  She taught me how to make the best enchiladas I have ever had, flour tortillas, and churros!!  Juanita was so awesome and we had amazing conversations with her.  This is only our third trip but it is definitely going to be one of my absolute favorites.  We got to spend some time with the kids because they work in the kitchen too.  I don’t know ANY sign language so for me it was sort of frustrating to not be able to communicate with them at all.. but being with them was enough and I can say that I tried to sign, but I have NO idea was I was saying..  They are precious though and God is working so much in this place and it is so evident that His hand is over Rancho Sordo Mudo.
Amanda- Yeah, so as anyone at home would say, the LAST place in the world I would EVER be found is in the kitchen. I’ve burned more stuff and undercooked more dishes than anyone I know. Kitchens + me = BAD times. And yet that’s exactly where God wanted me this week. I would have been perfectly happy grabbing a shovel but a ladle? Yeah right. But God knows a little better what He’s doing than I do. I couldn’t believe how utterly satisfying this week was. As a cook I got to practice my Spanish (which was atrocious), hang out and speak with Jaunita (best Mexican cook…) and Heather and Brittany, and serve my fellow Joshua students and Rancho Sordo Mudo. I had the best time learning to cook and couldn’t believe how cool it was to feed people! Our students and Rancho Sordo Mudo were ecstatic about food and it was actually something I got to make! God has been showing me new passions I NEVER knew I had and is teaching me new ways to glorify Him. He doesn’t need to use me for anything because He is God and yet He chose to use our class to serve. I am floored at His love and grace this week. La semana pasada fue fantastica!
Heather- Lets see, one word to describe working with Jaunita? AMAZING! I seriously had the best week ever. Amanda, Brittany, and I got to work in the kitchen of Rancho Sordo Mudo with the sweetest lady on the face of the planet. I absolutely love making new friends, visiting new countries, speaking different languages, and cooking and I got to do all four! It was crazy tiring but such a great opportunity to practice my Spanish with Jaunita. By the second day we were having these big long conversations about everything without even thinking about it. She had us cracking up all day long. She also taught me the name of a volcano in Mexico that is really long, its called Parangaricutirimicuaro. Its crazy how much hard work she puts into cooking for the kids every single day. It was a humbling experience to work with her and I learned so much. I learned about things from making homemade tortillas and churros, to how important a loving family is. Jaunita is a great example of a loving, godly woman. On top of getting to know Jaunita, the ranch staff, and the kids, I got to spend some great time getting to know Brit and Amanda better. I wouldn’t trade working in the kitchen this week for anything.  Huge blessing for sure.
