About Joshua

Rich Ferreira

Rich is the director of the Joshua Wilderness Institute and has been teaching at Joshua for the past 6 years. He is a graduate of Biola University with a bachelor degree in Christian Education and Bible, as well as a Masters in Theology from Talbot Theological Seminary. He and his wife Becky live full time at Hume Lake with their daughter Ellie and son Jaron.

Bob Phillips

Bob serves as Director–At–Large for Hume Lake Christian Camps and is a licensed family counselor in California. He is also a prolific writer and has published many books.

Kip Strawbridge

Originally from Mississippi, Kip moved to Hume Lake in 1998 and worked two summers at Wildwood. In the summer of 2000, he took over the Wagon Train program and is currently the Children’s Ministry Director for Hume Lake. He met his wife, Michal, at Hume and was wed in March of 2000. He has a two year old girl named Kai and a baby boy named Kale. In his spare time he enjoys rock climbing, web design, video games and martial arts.

PK Kurth

PK has been affiliated with Hume for more than 20 years. He currently oversees Hume's Outdoor Education Program, International Ministries and Sports Camps. He has a Pastoral Ministries degree from Liberty University. He is married to Kari, JWI's Administrative Assistant. He enjoys just about any physical activity ranging from broom hockey to cheerleading.

Cliff Carey

Cliff grew up in Bakersfield, CA and attended Biola University where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management. For ten years, Cliff taught Ballroom Dancing, Manners and Etiquette for children 8 to 13 years old. Cliff has worked for Hume Lake Christian Camps since 1997 and has served in various program positions. Cliff is married to April and they have one son, Peter.

Brad Bell

As founding pastor of The Well Community Church in Fresno, California, Brad Bell is a man of passion, deeply committed to the things of God. A gifted communicator of biblical truth rooted in love, and seasoned with candor, Brad brings more to the table than sound doctrine; he earnestly desires to emulate authenticity and humility to those whom he influences.

Brad is a strong communicator with expertise in the areas of Scriptural Exposition, Marital Love and Romance, Dating, Deepening a Marriage, Manhood, Spiritual Formation, and other thought provoking content.

Brad and his bride, Jen, have been married ten years, and have two beautiful (and energetic) daughters, Peyton (7) and Kendall (4). He is a graduate of Fresno State University (Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Arts in Biblical Studies). Brad is also a passionate connoisseur of all things coffee, and enjoys laughing often and loving deeply.

The Well Community Church was launched in Fresno during the spring of 2002 by a handful of college-age and young adults with a vision to love out the Gospel in a fresh and dynamic way. Now a multi-site church with four campuses canvassing the city with over 3000 adults attending weekly, The Well continues its focus on helping people connect to God and to each other through honest study of the Bible and heart-felt devotion to incarnating the Gospel.

Mike Slayden

Mike and his bride left Texas nearly 6 years ago to partner up with his old friend, Brad Bell, to be a part of what God was doing at The Well. Throughout his time here, Mike has worn a number of hats. He currently serves as a Teaching Pastor & is staring a new endeavor called Off the Front, an organization committed to get kids on bikes. Mike is passionate about teaching God's word and keeps a theological guard around The Well. Mike has been married for 10 years to his bride Michele and has 3 amazing daughters, Madison, Cali, and Ella.

Jerrod Rumley

Jerrod Rumley currently serves as the Community Director and Campus Pastor for the Well Community Church. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Family Relations and Child Development. He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree from Western Seminary anticipates graduating in December 2010. He and his wife Jen live in Fresno with their three year old son Cooper.

Shea Sumlin

Originally from Denton, Texas, Shea attended the University of North Texas where he received a B.A. in General Studies. He is also a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary where he received an M.A. in Christian Education. Shea brings to the table 17 years of experience in college ministry- 7 of which he spent pastoring at Denton Bible Church. In the summer of 2009, Shea and his family made the move to Fresno California to work with The Well Community Church. He is currently The Well's Fig Garden Campus Pastor and also serves on The Well's teaching team. Shea is a gifted communicator with a passion for local church ministry. His heart is to see the church equipped in sound doctrine and engaged in mission. Shea has been married to his bride, Tiffany, for nearly 10 years, and has three beautiful daughters, Emma (6), Sara Beth (5), and Abigail (2)

Rick Taylor

Rick and his wife Judy have just recently moved to California and is a pastor at The Well Community Church in Fresno. Rick has a background that includes pastoral ministry, Christian camping, college and seminary teaching. Rick has his Th.M. and D.Min. from Dallas Theological Seminary and 2 years of post-graduate study in counseling at Emporia State University. Rick has authored one book and co-authored a second. Rick and Judy have had 4 children, one is with the Lord and the other three are grown and have their own families.
