Domingo!

Guess what? Everyone needs porches. Everyone.

You wanna know why? Because rocking chairs belong on porches. You know who belongs on rocking chairs on porches in the Caribbean? We do.

Coming at you from the Dominican Republic, this is Jonathan Cooper Bowers, Tristan-Charles Cameron Green, and Kristin Michelle Marlow.

Domingo! That’s Sunday in Spanish for you singularly-lingual folk. Because it is Sunday, Sunday is the day of church. Some of us attended church in the morning, and the other half in the afternoon. Kristin will now describe in detail the events of her morning church experience.

This morning I attended La Vid Community Church, and I was blown away. One of the things I really respected about the church here in the D.R. was the fact that pure scripture was preached. Granted, in the States, life application can be completely appropriate, however it was completely refreshing to be exhorted with absolute Bible. The pastor had us jumping all over the Word of God and I loved ever minute. It was also a complete joy to be worshipping God in Spanish. It served as a reminder that our God does not speak only English, or Chinese, or even Hebrew, but that He is God of all and therefore hears and takes pleasure in worship from all languages. I feel as though the American church could take some note from our brothers and sisters here in the Dominican Republic and praise God with such passion and focus more on the truth of the Gospel.

T-dog and I attended another church. The music began with an upbeat reggae song that we didn’t recognize, and then went into a couple we knew (I Could Sing of Your Love Forever, Holy is the Lord). It was awesome to see the fervor of their worship, which encouraged to enter into it as well. Before the Pastor spoke, and the kids went off to Sunday school, the kids stood up and different adults laid hands on them and prayed for them. That was awesome. The Pastor spoke about ten different lies we believe, and confronted them with truth from Scripture. Along with Kristin and the other students, it was awesome for us to witness the unity that exists between believers no matter what sort of cultural differences are there.
