“It’s the end of the [year] as we know it.”

matteson-michael.JPG“It’s the end of the [year] as we know it.” I can’t believe that the nine-month program that I’ve grown to know and love ends in about a week (Sunday May 11th). It’s hard to really sum up the year in a blog. So much has happened. Throughout those nine months we have been inundated with speakers and teachers from all over, we’ve gone on mission trips, worked many different jobs, and delved into God’s word. We’ve had memories that will last us a lifetime. I will talk about one of the biggest lessons I learned this year. It just sank in a little bit ago, when we read the Pursuit of Holiness. That lesson ties in with the book of the bible we memorized and it is…

“Not that I have already obtained all of this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it, but one thing I do, forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 3:12-14 NIV)

That is how the Christian life/walk should be. God calls us to pursue holiness; it talks about it in Ephesians 4, “…to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds…” We aren’t perfect creatures, we’re fallen, but through Christ we are made alive in Him. He died so that we can be with Him forever and that still baffles me. He basically says, “you meet Me here, and I’ll do the rest.”

Now is that time when we are let loose back into the world. The next year will, as one of my classmates put it, “make us or break us”. God only knows what will happen, “but I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed but will have sufficient courage so that now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.” (Philippians 1:20 NIV)
